Why We Should Know about Basic Social Media Terms

You’ve heard the saying that “you are what you do.” Well, when it comes to social media, this couldn’t be more true. Social media is not just a way for you to keep up with your favorite celebrities or even share pictures of your childhood pet – it’s also an important marketing tool for businesses who want to reach out and connect with their customers.

Social media is the use of digital platforms to connect with others. Sometimes people use social media to share pictures, thoughts, or other types of content with their friends or family. Other times they will connect with others who share similar interests.

The most common ways that people connect on social media are through Facebook, Instagram, Twitter (and other blogging sites like WordPress), YouTube (and other video sharing sites like Vimeo), and Reddit.

“Facebook”, for example, is one way you can connect with your friends and family. You can post updates about your life and live-stream events happening at the moment; link to articles you’ve found interesting, and communicate easily with any person on the platform. It has become a powerful marketing tool because businesses can also use Facebook to connect with their audience.

Since the majority of people have a Facebook account, many companies will create a business page on the platform in order to interact with their customers. They can post updates about new products, launch a contest or sweepstakes, gather customer feedback and ideas, and even run an advertisement campaign. By keeping this connection going, they build more trust and loyalty with their customers which could translate into increased sales.
